FM meets Nigerian counterpart on sidelines of AU meetings

The two sides tackled bilateral relations in light of both countries' political and economic roles in the African continent, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The Egyptian foreign minister underlined Egypt's interest in developing and boosting relations with Nigeria and improving coordination on various issues that are essential for the African continent, the spokesman added.
The meeting further discussed the importance of activating the joint Egyptian-Nigerian committee, bolstering cooperation in the fields of fighting terrorism and UN and Security Council reform.
The Nigerian minister hailed the development of Egyptian-Nigeria relations, especially after a recent visit by the Nigerian president to Egypt that opened new vistas for joint cooperation. Meanwhile, the two sides agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming phase with regard to developing bilateral relations and coordination in both regional and international arenas. with Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama on the sidelines of meetings of the executive council of the African Union, currently taking place in Rwanda's capital Kigali.
