Statement by President El Sisi at joint press conference with Lebanese President Michael Aoun

Monday، 13 February 2017 - 12:00 AM

Dear Brother Excellency President Michael Aoun of sisterly the Republic of Lebanon;

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you in your second country Egypt. I confirm to you that the distinguished relations between our two countries are the fruit of continued interaction between the Egyptian and Lebanese peoples, with their time-honored civilization, through cultural and social rapprochement that resulted in strong bonds and unanimity of views on several issues.

It also gives me great pleasure your Excellency the president to renew my congratulation to you and the brotherly Lebanese people over the success of Lebanon to complete the presidential elections and form a new government that wins the confidence of the Lebanese citizens and work for achieving their aspirations.

Ladies and gentlemen;

Egypt was always seeking to preserve the entity and stability of the Lebanese State and its institutions. Egypt contacted over the past period the Lebanese political powers to confirm the necessity of adopting dialogue as a basis for settling disputes. Egypt was also one of the first countries which welcomed the success of the Lebanese to reach a political settlement that was reached in Lebanon away from the interference of any foreign powers and maintained the unique Lebanese example of coexistence between all its sects; making Lebanon a major example in the region for political settlement of crises.

I confirm to my brother Excellency President Michael Aoun that Egypt will continue its support for sisterly Lebanon at all levels. I have all confidence that his term in office will help enhance the status of Lebanon as a country of political pluralism and cultural diversity that is governed by the bases of partnership and agreement by the various political powers, it will also help keep Lebanon away from any attempts to drag it and the region into the area of religious or ideological conflicts which are alien to our region. These conflicts are seeking to deprive the Arab Mashreq region from its historical character as an area of coexistence and convergence of religions and ideologies. The free, strong and stable Lebanon is a factor of strength to the Arab nation. Excellency President Michael Aoun you will receive from us all support to your sincere efforts for maintaining the stability of Lebanon and resuming the process of reconstruction and development.

Brothers and sisters;

We discussed today means of promoting bilateral relations especially in the economic and trade domains. We underlined the importance of enhancing three-way African cooperation with a view to promoting products and industries of the two countries in Africa. I was pleased to listen to the view of President Michael Aoun on means of upgrading relations between our two sisterly countries along with the care lent to the Egyptian community in Lebanon.

Our talks also dealt with several regional and international issues of joint interest atop of which were fighting terrorism and the Syrian crisis along with the crisis of refugees from which Lebanon is suffering. We have agreed that the two countries should stand together in the face of terrorist dangers where I expressed to his Excellency Egypt's readiness to support the capabilities of Lebanon's army and its security agencies.

We discussed also the current arrangements for the coming Arab summit that will be hosted by sisterly the Kingdom of Jordan as we all work for the summit's success in the face of hard challenges besetting the Arab nation in this critical juncture of its history.

Ladies and gentlemen;

I would like once again to express my great pleasure for this important visit. The Egyptian people and I welcome once again my dear brother his Excellency President Michael Aoun in his second country Egypt.

Thank you.
