Egyptian participation in UNGA 73

The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73) will open on 18 September 2018 at the UN Headquarters in New York. The theme of the general debate will be, ‘Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies.’

The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 25 September 2018, and is scheduled to last for nine working days. The agenda of the session includes a number of international and regional issues, including sustainable development, maintaining international peace and security, political conflicts, peacekeeping and peace building.

Egypt is participating in the session in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, carrying an agenda full of important international, regional and national issues. He will explain Egypt's achievements in fighting terrorism, results of the Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018 and Egypt's vision of developments in the Middle East, especially in Palestine, Syria and Libya.

The Middle East issues come on top of Egypt's priorities including the Palestinian cause, the Syrian crisis, situation in Libya and Yemen, combating terrorism, development in Africa, respect of international law and the protection of human rights as well as the topics of peacekeeping and peace-building.

It is expected that President Sisi to meet his American counterpart Donald Trump in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations Assembly. The two leaders are expected to discuss and exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern; especially on the Palestinian cause. The discussions aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement which would be based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy.

Sisi is also expected to participate in the celebration, which will be held on the sidelines of the UN general Assembly, with the centennial of the late African leader Nelson Mandela, for his place and sacrifices as a symbol of the continent's symbols, especially as Egypt will head the African Union in January.

President Sisi met UAE Foreign Minister



President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said unprecedented developments in the Arab region require concerted efforts to foster the joint Arab action and face attempts to interfere into the Arab countries' internal affairs.  Sisi's remarks came during his meeting with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New York in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.

President Sisi met World Bank President


President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed with World Bank President Jim Yong Kim cooperation projects between Egypt and the bank in the fields of health and education, especially technical education and vocational training, and means of developing cooperation in various fields, most particularly economic and social development, as well as assisting the government's efforts to attract foreign investments to the Egyptian market.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met President of the European Council Donald Tusk and Austrian Chancellor of Sebastian Kurz, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Head of the General Intelligence Directorate Abbas Kamel.  Sisi affirmed Egypt's keenness on fostering various aspects of cooperation with the European Union in line with close ties and common interest in confronting challenges facing the Mediterranean region.

President Sisi met IMF Managing Director



President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received at his residence in New York Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde who lauded Egypt's economic reform efforts over the last period and the bold steps and reforms the Egyptian government has made to push the development process forward, redress the budget deficit and reduce inflation rates in addition to other positive economic indicators which were achieved over a record time.

President Sisi met American Chamber of Commerce and the Egyptian-American Business Council



President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to develop its economic partnership with the United States and push it towards new horizons to serve the interests of both countries. This came in a word he delivered during a working dinner banquet hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce and the Egyptian-American Business Council, which was attended by a number of presidents and senior officials of major American companies operating in various sectors.

Sisi meets Lebanese President


President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed with his Lebanese counterpart Michel Aoun means of boosting bilateral relations, as well as the latest developments in the Middle East region. The talks focused on how to end regional crises and alleviate the suffering of the peoples of brotherly countries.

Sisi meets Norwegian PM


President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed that he is looking forward to enhancing the relations with Norway in all fields. The President briefed the Norwegian Prime Minister on the latest developments in Libya, stressing that Egypt has an unshakable stance towards the Libyan crisis.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended a dinner banquet hosted by the New York-based Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), which is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, non-partisan organization that encourages dialogue between political leaders and business communities around the world.

Sisi meets US President Donald Trump


President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted Egypt's keenness on boosting the special relationship and partnership it has the United States, pointing to the importance of this partnership for promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. Sisi affirmed that Egypt looks forward to further coordination and consultation with the United States on various regional issues, Including terrorism which he described as the greatest threat to the stability of the region and the whole world.

The meeting also took up the issue of combating terrorism, while Trump praised Egypt's firm and successful terrorism-combat efforts and described it as one of the leading countries in the fight against this threat and a pivotal partner of the US in the war on terrorism.

President Sisi met UN Secretary General António Guterres in New York. The meeting came on the sidelines of the 73rd UN General Assembly meetings.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday met here with Jordanian King Abdullah II on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. President Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan urged for concerted Arab efforts to cope with the crises facing some countries in the region. The Jordanian king hailed Egypt's pivotal role in serving the Arab causes and its efforts to promote the national solidarity. Sisi praised deeply-rooted relations binding the two countries, expressing keenness on continuing coordination and consultation between the two sides, especially in light of visions and mutual interests they share, alongside the major challenges facing the region.

President Sisi delivered Egypt's speech to the 73rd meetings of the United Nations General Assembly. He said that preserving and reforming the foundations of the nation state was a fundamental priority of Egypt's foreign policy in the Arab region.
