FM, UN chief discuss coordination over regional, int'l issues

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres ways of coordinating efforts over the latest regional and international developments.
Shoukry underlined the importance of UN's role to push forward peace talks in many countries, especially Libya and Syria, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.
Talks tackled challenges facing the Palestinian issue and the importance of maintaining the UNRWA role to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians until a just solution to the Palestinian cause is reached.
The two sides exchanged viewpoints over unifying international efforts to fight terrorism.
Shoukry underlined the importance of adopting a comprehensive strategy to fight terrorism and end for good its funding sources.
Talks tackled Egypt's strategy during its coming presidency of the African Union especially as regards enhancing social and economic development in the African continent.
Shoukry lauded the package of reforms the UN adopted during its previous UN General Assembly session.
Shoukry expressed hope that Guterres would hold a conference on the establishment of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East to contribute to efforts to achieve sustainable peace and security in the Middle East region and build confidence among its states.
He expressed support of the UN chief's efforts to enhance peacekeeping operations worldwide.
