Armed Forces: 47 Takfiris killed in Sinai raids

The Armed Forces announced that 47 Takfiris were killed and 385 explosive charges were dismantled and detonated in the latest joint raids carried out by army and police personnel in north and central Sinai.
Around 29 hideouts used by terrorists, as well as 97 four-wheel vehicles were destroyed in strikes launched by air forces in the area, the Armed Forces' General Command said in a statement on Thursday.
The statement added that military engineers defused and detonated 385 explosive devices that were planted to target army and police forces on roads leading to areas of military operations. They also discovered and knocked down two tunnel openings.
During the swoops, the army troops succeeded in seizing and destroying 33 unlicensed vehicles and eight motorcycles used by terrorists, the statement noted.
About 158 criminals, wanted persons and suspects were arrested, the statement read.
The army forces also destroyed a number of terrorist hotbeds containing large quantities of foodstuffs, weapons, and ammunition of various types, as well as quantities of auto parts, the statement said.
Border guards, in cooperation with the police and military, have managed to seize 585 rifles of different types and two machinery guns, 80 automatic rifles' magazines and 2,088 different caliber bullets, the statement added.
They managed to seize 646 kilograms of cannabis, 7,707 kilograms of bango, 10 kilograms of opium, and 633,000 narcotic pills, in addition to confiscating 172 cars used in smuggling, and 48 devices used for mineral exploration, the statement added.
The army troops foiled an illegal migration attempt by 1,048 people of different nationalities on all strategic fronts of the country, the statement noted.
An army officer, a non-commissioned officer and three soldiers were killed, while four soldiers were injured in the raids, the statement said.
The armed forces launched Operation Sinai 2018 in February last year to target terrorist and criminal organizations in north and central Sinai, parts of the Nile Delta and the Western Desert.
