Tuesday، 25 June 2019 - 05:04 PM
Mr. Meron Demetro, Chief of Board of Trustees
Mr. Estudor Nikolai, Rector of the of Bucharest University of Economic Studies,
Mr. Marius Constantin, Honorable Vice Rector,
Honorable University Staffers,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
At the outset, I would like to express my sincere happiness to be with you today in this prestigious academic edifice which has embraced, for over a hundred and six years, many students who graduated and became great intellectuals, whose role has enriched political, economic, and cultural life, not only in Romania but throughout Europe. Your prestigious university has been able to go beyond crucial historical stages and events, to keep up with the changes of the times and lead the developments in your time-honoured society, including the period following the Romanian Revolution in 1989, which enabled it to occupy the advanced position in Europe and the world.
The decision of your university council to confer me the Honourary Doctorate will always be appreciated. This honor is not only for me, but also for the whole Egyptian people who have great appreciation for the friendly Romanian people. This remarkable gesture gives a new perspective to the deep cultural ties, which have been formed over decades and centuries, that brought together our two countries. These deep-rooted ties are expressed by the great Roman poet Mihai Eminsco, who was inspired by the greatness of Pharaonic civilization to write a poem about Egypt, River Nile, and the Pyramid in 1872 and are also clear in Sinai Monastery in Sinai region in Romania, named after the Monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai in 1695.
From this rostrum, I would like to confirm my pride and honour of these ties, which constitute a fundamental pillar in the friendly relations between our two countries and peoples and represent an important motive for their promotion through education and academic cooperation. In this context, I would like to refer to the great boom witnessed by Egyptian universities for years aiming to achieve a real renaissance not only for the Egyptian people, but also for the Arab, African and Islamic peoples whose some of their nationals study in our universities. Egypt is making rapid strides to develop the higher education system and establish new universities in the same pattern of the world ones, which I believe the University of Bucharest for Economic Studies is one of them.
I am pleased that my visit to Romania today will lead to enhancing the academic cooperation, which already exists between Egypt and Romania, especially with your esteemed university, through joint programs and scientific research projects, besides the potential to benefit from the support provided by the European Union in this context.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate my deep thanks and express my great happiness for the initiative of your honourable University Council as well as to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Romanian President, Klaus Johannis, for his good invitation to visit Romania in support of the relationships of brotherhood and friendship binding our peoples.
Thank You Very Much
