The state's new waste management system will bring about a significant shift in citizens' daily lives, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
It will reduce environmental deterioration and light pollution, he added.
According to the new system, waste will be collected, treated and recycled, Rady told the national Extra News channel on Tuesday evening 10/9/2019.
He noted that residual waste would be buried in sanitary landfills.
It is a fully integrated system resembling those followed by developed countries, the spokesman said.
The system will be initially implemented in five governorates, which were selected during a meeting held by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to discuss this issue.
These governorates include Cairo, Sharqia, Ismailia, Port Said and Beni Suef, Rady said, adding that a large consortium of national companies will take over the implementation process at an estimated cost of EGP 3.5 billion.
