Antiquities Minister hails discovery of Al-Asasif Cachette

Saturday، 19 October 2019 - 04:25 PM

Minister of Antiquities Khaled el Anany has praised the recent discovery of Al-Asasif Cachette of intact and sealed coffins in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Luxor.

He said on Saturday that all coffins uncovered in the cachette date back to the 22nd dynasty.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the cachette, including 30 coffins, was found in Al-Assasif area, an ancient necropolis on the western bank of the Nile, noting that the coffins have never been opened by archaeologists.

The minister said the discovery has been totally made by Egyptian archaeologists for the first time.

Anany dismissed all reports that the coffins were buried in 1976, adding that such rumors aim to belittle the achievements made by Egypt.

He urged to preserve antiquities and support the efforts exerted by the Egyptian state in all fields, particularly tourism and antiquities.
