Culture Celebrates 150 Anniversary of The Foundation of the Khedive Opera

Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, said that Egypt is the first country in the Middle East and in the African continent to establish an opera House . The Khedive opera, which is a reflection of the leadership of Egypt the oldest human civilizations.
She Added that Egypt has always been a place for interaction between the countries of the world and it is a beacon of enlightening for thought and culture. The Egyptian opera is an extension of our antecedents and it succeeded in presenting the valuable serious artistic colors and managed to in attract a large scale of audience and also contributed positively to the formation of awareness of society and individual building.
For his part, Dr. Magdy Saber, head of The Opera House, said that on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Khedive Opera, a grand celebration will be held at 8 pm on Thursday 14 November at the Grand Theater.
It is worthy of note that The Ministry of Culture will honor 12 figures of the Opera House including:- Maya Selim - Wadoud Feyza - Alya Abdel Razek, Dr. Sherif Bahader- former dean of the High Institute of Ballet. Dr. Esmat Yehia, former head of the Academy of Arts. In addition to honoring an array of the Egyptian opera singers including: Baritone Dr. Gaber El-Beltagy - Professor of operatic singing at the Academy of Arts- Dr. Nabila Erian, Dr. Awatif El-Sharkawy, Dr. Alfy Milad, Dr. Afaf Rady, Marcel Matta -The first Egyptian pianist and first head of the instrument Department at the Conservatoire Institute.
Furthermore, Abdel Dayem pointed out that the program of the celebration includes: screening a documentary film about the Khedive opera and its history and the most important performances on its stage , as well as presenting artistic performances by : Cairo Opera Ensemble , Cairo Opera Ballet, Coral Acapella accompanied by Cairo Symphony Orchestra led by Maestro Ahmed El Saidy directed by Hazem Tayel.
It also includes presenting performances for the most important international classical operas: Rigoletto, Carmen, Don Quixote, Latrafiata, a number of classical musical works- Blue Danube and Carmina Burana.
