Environment Minister participates in 17th AMCEN session in S.Africa

Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad left on Wednesday 13/11/2019, heading to Durban city in South Africa to take part in the 17th regular session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN).

The session is held under the theme "Taking action for Environmental Sustainability and Prosperity in Africa".

The gathering aims to unify African actions towards the environmental issues and encourage African countries to take practical action, including the implementation of policies and joining in relevant regional and global frameworks, in order for the continent to attain environmental sustainability and prosperity and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Africa’s Agenda 2063.

Attending a ministerial meeting on supporting the circular economy, Fouad will be reviewing the successful experiences adopted in this field and mechanisms applied in support of the small and medium-sized projects.

Fouad will also chair a ministerial meeting on biological diversity and means of making economic use of this field.

She is set also to hold a number of bilateral meetings on the fringe of AMCEN session with a delegation from the European Union (EU) and the official in charge of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to discuss fields of joint cooperation.
