Egypt committed to ten principles of Bandung conference : diplomat

Amr Ramadan, Egypt's permanent delegate to the UN, reiterated on Monday 24/4/2017 Egypt's commitment to the ten principles of Bandung Conference, the first large-scale Asian–African Conference that was held in Indonesia in 1955.
The conference was an important step toward the establishment of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Addressing a ceremony in the UN marking the 65th anniversary of Bandung Conference, Ramadan, who also acts as the first vice president of the International Council for Human Rights, lauded the historic role NAM has played to help countries attain their independence from political colonialism during the cold war.
Egypt, India and former Yugoslavia were the three main founders of NAM.
Poverty, hunger, climate change, drought, desertification, violence, extremism and conflicts are the main challenges facing the world today, he said, adding that these challenges require garnering up support of all member states of NAM to address them, especially as the movement represents two thirds of UN members and makes up 55 percent of world population.
