Awqaf Min. condemns terrorist attack in Nasr city

Endowment (Awqaf) Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa condemned Monday's terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in Cairo's suburb of Nasr City that left two officers and a policeman dead and five others injured.
In statements to MENA on Tuesday, the minister said this cowardly terrorist attack is against religion, the homeland and humanity, adding "It is now time for a comprehensive confrontation of terrorism."
The menace of terrorism must be crushed with "an iron fist," he said, stressing the importance of the society's role in busting terrorist cells that destabilize the nation.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
On Monday night, three police personnel were killed and five others injured in a shootout with unidentified gunmen in Cairo's suburb of Nasr City, a security source said.
The gunmen suddenly opened fire on a security patrol tasked with inspecting the area, the source said.
The patrol exchanged fire with the criminals, who were forced to flee the scene, the source added.
Fixed and mobile checkpoints were deployed to the area to arrest the perpetrators, the source said.
