Egypt defeats Mali in U-23 AFCON opener

Egypt U-23 national football team on Friday 08/11/2019 clinched a 1-0 victory over Mali in the opener of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations (U-23 AFCON) at Cairo stadium.

The Pharaohs' next encounter will be against Ghana on November 11, then they will face Cameron on November 14.

The prestigious tournament is hosted by Egypt from Nov. 8 to 22, with the participation of eight teams in two groups.

Egypt plays in Group A alongside Ghana, Cameroon, and Mali. Group B includes South Africa, Zambia, Cote d'Ivoire, and Nigeria, the current champions.

The first three teams will qualify directly to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, while the fourth-place finisher will play against a team from the Asian Football Confederation, to also book a seat in the Olympics.
