President's meetings with officials

January 2: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi probed means to combat terrorism and developments of the Ethiopian Dam negotiations at a meeting he held with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli. The meeting dealt with means to combat terrorism as part of efforts to protect the country's borders, in addition to foreign files connected to the challenges and threats the region is facing and means to deal with them in a way maintaining the security of the country.

January 2: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi presided over a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss a set of vital issues relevant to current regional and international developments. The meeting also tackled current talks to reach an agreement between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on the Renaissance Dam.

January 5: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reiterated the important role played by media in spreading awareness among Egyptians in light of the country’s fierce war against terrorism. Media outlets play an important role in deepening societal constants and combating terrorism, Sisi said during a meeting with Minister of State for Information Osama Heikal.

January 9: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed to develop a comprehensive strategy to revive the agricultural sector and achieve a national agricultural renaissance. Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation el Sayyed el Quseir.

January 11: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to keep up its efforts to upgrade the state's industrial sector as an important pillar of national economy. Sisi made his remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea and Social and Solidarity Minister Nevine el Kabbaj.

January 13: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed the importance of combating poverty and providing basic services for people in the most needy areas. Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat.

January 13: During a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the authorities concerned to continue their efforts for a comprehensive improvement of the State's transport sector, underlining the sector's vital importance for upgrading the State's infrastructure.

January 22: During a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Ministers of Defense and Military Production, Foreign, Agriculture and Water Resources and Director of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to keep working for protecting Egypt's water rights for present and future generations. The meeting took up the progress of trilateral negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

January 26: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Ghada Wali, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna.

January 26: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed el Assar and followed up efforts exerted to develop firms and factories affiliated to the Ministry of Military Production, enhancing the role of such companies and factories in improving national economy and carrying out national projects to achieve desired economic development.

Field Tours

January 15: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated "Bernice", Egypt's biggest military base in the Red Sea region.

January 16: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan opened Sharm El Sheikh Arab heritage festival also known as the "international camel racing" in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh.

January 27: Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, asked religious institutions, topped by Al Azhar Al Sharif, to attach importance to the renewal of the religious discourse, hoping Al Azhar International Conference on the Renewal of Islamic Thought, will be a prelude to other conferences to renew the Islamic thought.

Official Celebrations

Police Day

January 23: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived at the premises of the Police Academy in the Cairo district of Fifth Settlement to attend a celebration held to mark the 68th National Police Day. The President met with members of the Supreme Council of Police as part of celebrations marking the 68th anniversary of Police Day and laid a wreath on the tomb of police martyrs at the Police Academy.

In his speech on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of Police Day, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed that the Police Day is not only a special occasion for policemen but also for all Egyptians, saying "it was a day of pride, dignity and patriotism as feelings of pride were mixed with the sacrifices of men who did not hesitate to offer their souls for the sake of the homeland."

President's meetings with foreign officials

January 8: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had a meeting with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian in Cairo. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to promote partnership between both countries, especially at the economic and investment levels, in light of the major development projects under-construction nationwide.

January 8: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and China's Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang and asserted Egypt's keenness on keeping Libya united and stable, as well as putting an end to any illegal international interference in its affairs. Sisi said that the Belt and Road initiative serves Egypt's development efforts, expressing hope that the number of Chinese tourists to Egypt would increase in the coming period.

January 8: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Monarch’s Adviser for Communication and Coordination Bisher Al-Khasawneh and handed over a letter from King Abdullah II of Jordan, voicing the kingdom's commitment to mutual coordination on various issues.

January 12: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received President of the European Council Charles Michel, saying that Egypt looks forward to bolstering cooperation with the European Union against illegal migration, terrorism and extremism by addressing the root causes of these problems.

January 14: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and discussed the latest developments in the Libyan crisis and the forthcoming Berlin conference on Libya.

January 18: At a meeting with the World Bank (WB) delegation, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed hope that cooperation with the WB would continue for supporting Egyptian development efforts, adding that Egypt is seeking to upgrade its strategic relations with the WB Group.

Phone Calls

January 29: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from President of the European Council Charles Michel to discuss the latest Palestinian developments. They agreed on intensifying efforts to bring about peace and reach settlement for the Palestinian problem by helping the Palestinian people restore all their legal rights and establish their independent and sovereign state on their usurped territories in line with international legitimacy resolutions and in a way that serves Middle East stability and security.

January 29: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss the latest Palestinian developments. They exchanged views on opening channels to resume US-sponsored Palestinian-Israeli negotiations with a view to bringing about just and comprehensive peace in line with international legitimacy resolutions and in a way that enables the Palestinians to restore their full legal rights and serves Middle East stability and security.

President's Foreign Visits

President Sisi’s visit to Berlin (January 18 - 19, 2020)

January 18: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived in Germany on a two-day visit to participate in an international conference on Libya.  German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for holding the meeting with the participation of all key actors in Libya.

January 19: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived at the venue of the Berlin International Conference on Libya, to be attended by a number of heads of state and representatives of regional and international organizations as well as the disputing parties in Libya.

January 19: During a meeting at his residence with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the start of his activities in the German capital, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said the only way to settle the Libyan crisis is through a comprehensive solution that tackles all the issue's dimensions and through vivid and defined political, security and economic tracks implemented through a clear and agreed-upon mechanism.

President Sisi’s participation in the UK-Africa Investment Summit (January 19 - 21, 2020)

January 19: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi participated in the UK-Africa Investment Summit, in the British capital London upon an invitation from German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The summit attended by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, some 53 heads of African state and government and heads of international organizations and major British and African businesses. The event aims to showcase and promote the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa.

January 20: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson co-chaired the inaugural session of the UK-Africa Investment Summit 2020. The summit focused on a number of issues, topped by sustainable funding, infrastructure, trade and future investment plans, especially trade and investment opportunities in Africa in addition to growth opportunities and clean energy plans in Africa.

January 20: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said, while addressing the summit, The UK-Africa Investment Summit 2020 contributes to the development of Africa at all levels, delighting to take part in the summit that promotes international efforts meant to support African countries in achieving development at all levels.

January 21: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended a reception held for leaders of delegations to the UK-Africa Investment Summit 2020 at Buckingham Palace. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, hosted the reception on behalf of British Queen Elizabeth II and in the presence of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Sisi and Johnson had chaired the opening session of the summit.

January 21: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to discuss means of boosting bilateral relations. The meeting also tackled regional and international issues of mutual concern.
