Head of the National Elections Authority Counselor Lashin Ibrahim announced on Saturday 08/08/2020 the end of campaigning for Senate elections 2020 and beginning of electoral silence as of 12 afternoon.

The NEA maintained an equal distance from all candidates vying in the closed-list and individual systems since the beginning of the campaigning period that kicked off on 26 July, Ibrahim said in statements.

He added that the NEA preserved neutrality towards all candidates to campaign through posters, billboards, loudspeakers and social media, in line with their constitutional rights.

The NEA prohibited public meetings and conferences by candidates under the strict preventive measures of social distancing to halt the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the head of the authority noted.

The NEA allowed candidates to start campaigning on July 26, after announcing the final list of nominees, till 12 afternoon on Saturday, August 8, a day ahead of the beginning of voting by Egyptian expats on Sunday and Monday, Ibrahim added.
