Health Minister Hala Zayed reviewed at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday the latest developments of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis in Egypt.
Egypt is the first African country to take part in the clinical trials for a Covid-19 vaccine in cooperation with the World Health Organization, Zayed said.
She added that the ministry launched a website and allocated a hotline for volunteers willing to participate in the third phase of the clinical trials for Covid-19 vaccines.
"As many as 3,000 volunteers, out of 3,784, were vaccinated," the minister said, pointing out that 32 Covid-19 vaccines have entered clinical trials globally so far.
Zayed said that the coronavirus pandemic has caused major changes to the health policies in Egypt, citing initiatives launched to maintain public health and cure chronic diseases.
She also spoke about the health situation in a number of tourist governorates, noting that precautionary measures have been taken to secure the ongoing El Gouna Film Festival, which is being held in the Red Sea resort town of El Gouna.
