President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Saturday directed the government to speed up the executive steps needed to support the domestic manufacturing of new energy vehicles.
Sisi made his directives during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, presidential aide for national and strategic projects, the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, the ministers of petroleum and mineral resources, public business sector, trade and industry and military production.
The meeting took up the main points of a national strategy on the local manufacturing of clean-fuel vehicles, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.
It also tackled aspects of another national project to covert diesel and petrol cars into electric of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) to cope with new technological advances in the global auto industry and protect the environment.
Relevant examples of some countries' experience in this regard have been discussed during the meeting to benefit from it, Rady added.
The meeting also addressed the main aspects of the above-mentioned strategy, such as creating the basic necessary infrastructure and an enabling legislative environment, providing relevant investment stimulants and adopting the mechanisms necessary for encouraging citizens to convert their cars into NGVs.
The head of the Arab Organization for Industrialization also attended the meeting.
