President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi participated on Thursday evening 6-1-2022 in the Coptic Christmas Day celebrations at the Cathedral of the Nativity in the New Administrative Capital.
The president was received at an entrance leading to the church by Pope Tawadros II and a number of bishops, senior state officials, diplomats, governors, as well as representatives of Al Azhar and the Awqaf Ministry.
The participants in the Christmas mass chanted “we love you Sisi”, and he answered them “I love you too.”
Some raised banners showing their love for the president and some others ululated in a show of joy and happiness over Sisi’s participation.
The president shook hands with a number of the participants in the prayers who presented flowers to him.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed his greetings to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese and the Coptic Christians on the occasion of Eastern Christmas.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has asserted that the New Republic embraces all the Egyptians without discrimination.
In his speech, President El-Sisi emphasized that the New Republic is “the republic of dream and hope, the republic of science and work, the capable republic not the aggressive one, the peaceful and not submissive.”
He asserted that “any challenge or difficulty will be easy as long as Egyptians are united,” warning against sedition among the Egyptian people.
President Sisi reiterated his congratulations to the merry gathering saying: “Happy New Year. I hope the New Year will be a year of love, mercy and peace for all.”
El-Sisi confirmed that “We have taken a way in which we promised Allah as well as all of you, and we started it and will complete it together,” adding that "the unity of the Egyptians can overcome difficulties and challenges", calling on the Egyptians not to allow anyone to drive a wedge among them.
The President, also, said that "he hopes Allah helps him be an honest servant to this nation and all Egyptians."
He praised Pope Tawadros as having “great value” for everyone. “Men are judged through their stances and during hard circumstances.”
The President expressed hope that all Egyptians will be safe from the coronavirus pandemic.
He said that he wanted to shake hands with all the attendees at the cathedral, but the pandemic is an obstacle.
For his part, Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his visit to the Nativity of Christ Cathedral in the New Administrative Capital to offer his greetings on Christmas.
In his homily for the celebration at the Cathedral, the Pope said he prays to God to keep the president healthy and safe, and to protect Egypt.
Pope Tawadros II asserted that "The New Republic that the president talked about embraces all and reflects citizenship and the unity of the Egyptians," he said.
The pontiff also thanked former interim president Adly Masnour for his phone call to offer his greetings on Christmas and lauded state officials who extended greetings at the papal seat, including Parliament Speaker Hanafi Gebali, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayeb.
The Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the Administrative Capital, which was inaugurated by President Sisi last year, is the largest in the Middle East, and it accommodates 8,200 people. It consists of a ground floor, a nave and a 60-meter-high beacon.
