The Egyptian Armed Forces are the State military establishment, which is responsible for the defense of Egypt. They consist of the Navy, Air Force and Air Defense Forces.

The Armed Forces belong to the People, and their duty is to protect the country and preserve its security and territorial integrity and maintain the constitution, democracy and the assets of the civil State, as well as the Egyptian people's gains, rights and freedoms.

The Egyptian army is one of the oldest regular armies in history. It started its first wars when King Menes united Upper and Lower Egypt in 3200 BC. Over centuries, it fought many wars and major battles throughout the ages, starting from the Pharaonic era through the Ptolemaic, Roman, Islamic and modern eras.
