Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has stressed Egypt's stand on solving the Ukrainian crisis through dialogue and diplomatic channels to reach a political settlement.

The minister made his remarks on Thursday during a meeting held with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Shoukry underlined the need to settle the Ukrainian crisis in light of its negative repercussions on the international economy, especially as the energy and food crises are affecting developing countries, including Egypt, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

The ministers reviewed the latest developments of the Ukrainian crisis and discussed means to boost Egyptian-Russian ties to serve the interests of both countries.

They also probed a number of regional issues, including the Libyan crisis, the Palestinian cause and conditions in Syria and Iraq, underscoring the need to bring about stability in the Middle East, Abu Zeid added.
