Planning Minister opens 16th Scientific Conf. of Arab Society for Economic Research

Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el Said opened, on behalf of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, proceedings of the 16th Scientific Conference of the Arab Society for Economic Research.
The two-day conference is organized by the Institute of National Planning (INP) in cooperation with Kuwait-based Arab Planning Institute and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT).
At the beginning of her speech, the minister lauded the 6th edition of the Arab development report under the rubric "Arab economic growth in light of crises: the COVID-19 pandemic".
The report, which was issued during the proceedings of the conference, studies some varied key and contemporary economic and social issues that are essential to the Arab countries, and analyzes difficulties and challenges besetting these countries, added the minister.
The report also suggested the best ways and policies aiming to improve the economic and social development of the countries of the Arab region, added the minister.
The minister, meanwhile, touched upon the crises and challenges, mainly the Covid-19, and their impacts on the countries and their economic growth.
Talking about the positive indicators of Egypt's economy, the minister said that the economy grew at a rate of 6.6% in the fiscal year 2021/2022, which is considered the highest growth rate since 2008.
The minister further said that Egypt advanced 19 positions in the UNDP's Human Development Index of 2021.
Egypt occupied the 97th place, compared to the 116th place in the previous report, added the minister.
Said noted that Egypt's progress reflects the success of development plans implemented by the country over the past years, including national projects and presidential initiatives in numerous fields.
