Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Damietta Port Authority, the Consulting Engineering Bureau (CEB) and the Scottish University of Strathclyde on the localization of sustainable technology.

The agreement was inked in a session titled "Towards sustainable, climate-neutral and emission-free transport" that was held within the activities of the Solutions Day at the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference, COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh, according to a statement released by the Transport Ministry on Friday 18/11/2022.

The MoU is meant to enhance cooperation between the Damietta Port Authority and Strathclyde University on the exchange of information and scientific and technical expertise and the organization of seminars, workshops, and conferences, as well as holding training courses at the university's research centers in the UK, the statement added.

It also aims to conduct a joint research program to develop maritime operations, procedures and services at the Damietta Port, the statement noted.

The MoU involves a proposal on a project to generate clean and renewable energy through making the best use of breakwaters in Damietta Port.

The agreement comes as part of an overall plan to modernize all maritime ports nationwide, starting from the development of their infrastructure and qualifying workers, in addition to transferring modern technology.
