Greenhouses Project

After turning the wheel of work on the implementation of the greenhouse project, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that it is finalizing the schedule for the inauguration of nearly 1,000 greenhouses.

A joint cooperation protocol was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the Arab Organization for Industrialization in the field of training on the establishment and operation of modern water-saving greenhouses. According to this protocol, the Arab Organization for Industrialization finances and manages the equipment necessary for the establishment, operation, management and training of new greenhouses, while the Ministry of Agriculture undertakes the management and operation operations in accordance with the agreed scientific and technical requirements and specifications.

Project Objectives :

 The project comes within the framework of implementing the comprehensive development plan of the state in the field of food security and keenness to bridge the food gap between production and consumption and maximize the use of land available for agricultural activities while rationalizing the use of irrigation water.

Establishing integrated agricultural and developmental communities.

The prevalence of the concept of superior quality of fresh products free of pollutants and the provision of cut flowers in the local markets in quantities that allow them to increase their circulation .

Maximizing the use of land and water units and creating new job opportunities in the targeted reclamation areas.

The project has a very positive impact on the volume of Egyptian exports and  increases their rates, to sit on the throne of world exports of fruit and vegetable production.

Establishing integrated agricultural development communities in the new reclamation areas within the project of one and a half million acres. The project includes 7 areas: "West Minya, West West Minya, Maghra, Sinai, Marashda 1, Marashda 2, Halayeb and Shalateen". It is targeted that the implementation will be as follows:

Construction of 20,000 greenhouses in the western region of Minya to grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupes, eggplants, green onions, zucchini and red cabbage.

Construction of 10,000 greenhouses in the western region of West Minya and 10,000 other greenhouses in the Maghra area for the cultivation of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, cantaloupes, peppers, watermelons, zucchini and cut flowers.

Construction of 20,000 greenhouses in Sinai to grow tomatoes, eggplants, cantaloupes, peppers, lettuce and cut flowers.

Construction of 30,000 greenhouses in Al-Marashda 1 and Al-Marashda 2 areas to grow tomatoes, peppers, beans, cantaloupes and cucumbers.

Construction of 10,000 greenhouses in Halayeb and Shalateen area to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, cantaloupes, peppers, zucchini, and cut flowers.

1 – 10  of Ramadan

The completion of 600 agricultural houses with Chinese technology on an area of 2500 acres, including administrative and service areas, and the sorting and filling station with a storage capacity of 800 tons / day and the water lifting station with a capacity of 50 thousand m3 / day on the youth canal, a drinking water desalination plant and another for sewage, and the site gets its electrical energy from the Jaafari station and has a marketing advantage due to its proximity to the port of Adabiya, Ain Sokhna port, East Tafria port and Damietta port, as well as many roads and axes.

2 – Mohamed Naguib base site in Matrouh

Project Location: The project is located at Mohamed Naguib base, west of Hammam City.

Project Area:  The project is located on an area of 4900 acres, which represents 24.5% of the total area of the first phase and was divided into three sectors:

First Sector:

186  traditional agriculturalhouses on an area of 250 acres,  representing 5% of the total area of the site, and were planted with different varieties of vegetables (beans - cucumbers - peppers - tomatoes - zucchini - cantaloupe - watermelon).

Second Sector:

116 agricultural houses of medium  technology on an area of 650 acres  and represents 13% of the total area of the site (40 high-tech  agricultural houses The area of one house is 3 acres -  60 agricultural houses  of medium technology  The area of one house is 3 acres  - 16  agricultural houses The  area of one house is 12 acres).

Third Sector:

1000 agricultural houses of medium technology on a total area of 4000 acres and represents 82% of the total area of the site, the area of one house is 3 acres.

Extensions to the greenhouse project at Mohamed Naguib base:

The quantities of water needed for the project were provided from the bathroom canal through 2 water lifters:

The first lifter has a capacity of 20,000 m³ of water/day.

The second lifter has a capacity of 150 thousand m³ water / day.

It was planned to feed the site with electricity with a capacity of 45 MVA and was provided by the Al Ameed Power Station.

It was planned to maximize the added value of the project by establishing a sorting and packaging station on an area of 2.5 acres with a storage capacity of 1200 tons / day.

Establishing a plant organic fertilizer production unit on an area of 20 thousand m² that produces 10 thousand m³ vegetable compost / one session, and works on the waste resulting from crops and the sorting and packaging station, and the unit consists of (chopping machine - stirring machine - screening and filling machine).

A group of nurseries has been established to cover the project's needs of different seedlings, in which grafting operations are carried out for vegetable seedlings, which is considered one of the best techniques to resist soil diseases.

Advantages of the greenhouse project at Mohamed Naguib base:

The location is characterized by its proximity to the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila, Borg El Arab Airport and main roads, which facilitates the transportation and distribution of the product.

The project creates about 15,000 jobs per day.

Laying the Cornerstone of Greenhouses Project in Abu Sultan, Ismailia

 The greenhouses project in the south of Abu Sultan is one of the largest greenhouses projects in the world. It is mentioned that Egypt's agricultural exports increased to more than 3.3 million tons, with an increase of 358 thousand and 432 tons over the same period last year.

• The list of the most important agricultural exports for this period included citrus, potatoes, onions, strawberries, beans, peppers, cucumbers, pomegranates, garlic and guava.

• The stages of establishing 2350 giant farm houses with the latest global technology on an area of ​​12500 feddans represent only 26% of the total area of ​​the first stage. The site gets its electrical energy through the construction of an 80 Mega power transformer station. The site's water needs have been provided through the Ismailia canal. The project extends to Al-Amal Village in the vicinity of Al-Qantara East, where the construction of 529 greenhouses were completed on an area of ​​100 feddans.

• It contains 529 greenhouses with a total area of 100 feddans.

• The site depends on Sinai Canal to get 5,300 cubic meters of water per day.

• It is located near Port Said Port and main roads.

• It provides 500 jobs a day.

• In each of the four sites, there are administrative buildings and factories for sorting, packaging and drying services.
