Egypt’s Participation in the 8th edition of the Rome-Mediterranean Dialogues Forum

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated on 12/2/2022 in the opening of the eighth edition of the Rome-Mediterranean Dialogues Forum, chaired by the Italian President "Sergio Mattarella", with the participation of the President of the Republic of Niger and a number of ministers of Mediterranean countries, within the framework of exchanging visions on ways to achieve regional balance and strengthen economic partnerships as well as close cooperation and coordination between the Mediterranean countries in facing common challenges to achieve security, stability and prosperity in the region.

The activities of the forum included holding a dialogue session with Minister Sameh Shoukry to get acquainted with the Egyptian vision towards a number of current regional and international issues.

During the session, Minister Shoukry reviewed the challenges facing Egypt in light of a changing geopolitical scene imposed by the developments that the world witnessed in recent years, in addition to the developments on the regional arena in Libya, Iraq, the Sahel and the Sahara region. This is in addition to the current situation of the Palestinian cause and the future of resuming the peace process, referring to Egypt's efforts to achieve regional peace and restore security and stability in the region.

The dialogue session also dealt extensively with reviewing the methodology of Egypt's leadership in negotiations during the COP27 climate conference including behind the scenes of the negotiation process. This is in addition to the achievement accomplished by launching the Loss and Damage Fund in relation to climate change, and reaching a final document that achieves the interests of all parties, especially developing and African countries. Shoukry also touched on the challenges related to food and energy security, which were exacerbated by the Ukrainian crisis, stressing in this context the importance of international action to push for a political settlement to the Ukrainian crisis, and working in parallel to strengthen international mechanisms to mitigate the repercussions of this crisis on developing countries.

He also reviewed Egypt's enormous potential as a "regional energy hub", and the various frameworks of cooperation with medium partners in this field.

Shoukry also stressed the priority that Egypt attaches to defending the interests of the African continent, promoting integration among African countries to achieve common development and addressing the challenges of terrorism and illegal immigration.

The Foreign Minister also reviewed Egypt's efforts to build international and regional economic partnerships to advance the comprehensive development process that Egypt has been witnessing in recent years, and to overcome the economic challenges posed by the current international developments.
