Damietta LNG Plant has exported 7.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas since 2021, the Petroleum Ministry said, adding that it has exported nearly 4 million tons in 2022.

This is the largest amount exported in the plant's nearly-20-year history, the Petroleum Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The plant managed to produce and export its 500th shipment since its operation in 2005, the statement said, adding that the plant stopped working for a period of 8 years before restarting again in February 2021.

Nearly 60% of the total cargos were exported to Europe, the statement stated.
