NRIAG head: Turkey's earthquake occurred in 'active fault' zone

Chairman of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) Gad El Qadi said that the area where the earthquake occurred in Turkey on Monday is the intersection of a number of active geological faults.
In statements to MENA, Chairman of NRIAG Gad El Qadi said the epicenter of the earthquake is located near the intersection of "East Anatolian fault" with the Dead Sea Fault Zone.
He further noted an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 on Richter scale was registered about 691 kilometers north of Rafah and at a depth of 18,30 kilometers.
The tremor occurred at 3:17 a.m., Cairo time, he added.
