Health min. reviews efforts to support elderly patients

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed the efforts of the Health Ministry to support the elderly who are most vulnerable to diseases.

The ministry launched a program for continuous care of the elderly in October 2021 as the number of those benefiting from the program until now reached 552,000 citizens.

This came during Abdel Ghaffar’s participation in an international meeting for policies and experts that include experts from the different Arab countries and representatives of the sectors of health, planning and social development in the Arab countries in addition to professors from the different Egyptian and international universities.

The meeting is organized by the Institute of Global Health and Human Ecology and the Social Research Center (SRC) of the American University in Cairo (AUC) in cooperation with the World Health Organization, the National Institute on Aging, Health and Retirement Study (HRS), Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe and Global Brain Health Institute.

The second stage of the program on continuous care for the elderly provided 401 primary healthcare units where the number reached 832 in November distributed in 21 governorates, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.

This strategic meeting is based on the pioneering experience of the Egyptian state for healthcare and caring for the elderly, the spokesman said.

The minister asserted the keenness of the ministry to present distinguished services to improve the living quality of the elderly via providing health insurance and medical services to them, the spokesman said.
