The Egyptian Council on African Affairs

Saturday، 18 March 2023 - 01:48 AM

As a non-governmental organization (NGO), the Egyptian Council on African Affairs is concerned with humanitarian issues, especially on women’s and children’s affairs.

The Council was founded in 2005 and is currently chaired by Dr. Abdel-Moneim Emara.
The Council’s inception is rooted in the facts that:
• The political role of NGOs has grown throughout the world with Western NGOs attempting to dominate Africa thereby influencing the political decision-making process here.
• Given Africa’s potential for achieving integration and self-sufficiency, the continent should take priority in Egypt’s foreign policy interests.
• The developments taking place in Africa and the scurrying by international and regional powers to take over its natural resources call for a greater Egyptian role in the continent.

Council activities:
The past three years, since the founding of the Council, have seen a flurry of activities. A few examples are:
• The idea adopted in coordination with the Arab League to hold an Arab conference to deal with the humanitarian conditions in Darfur.
• The initiative proposed to develop a new Egyptian strategy in Africa.
