International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat said that Egypt is the first country to launch the Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) in the Middle East and North Africa region, in cooperation with the World Bank.
The CCDR is a key tool to support the State's policy to shift to green economy and conducts a comprehensive analysis of the economic situation in Egypt and focuses on the sectors of water, agriculture, energy, transportation, industry, and resilient coastal cities.
The minister's statements came during her participation in an event organized by the WB on Monday on the launch of CCDR, with the participation of Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad, British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley, World Bank's Country Director for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti Marina Wes, Director for Strategy, Risk and Results, Operations Policy and Country Services of the World Bank Stefan G. Koeberle, as well as representatives of relevant bodies and development partners.
She said the Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) explores the challenges and opportunities for improving the alignment of Egypt’s development goals with its climate ambition.
The report identifies opportunities to reduce inefficiencies, manage risk, and strengthen the foundation for increased private-sector participation, she added.
In addition, it offers a set of policy options and investment opportunities that, if implemented within five years, can deliver short-term benefits in selected sectors while also creating momentum toward important long-term benefits, she further noted.
The minister also stressed the importance of the Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) Program, which was launched in July 2022.
