At the official invitation of the Cypriot Presidency, Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates' Affairs Soha Gendi participated in the opening session of the World Conference of Cyprus Diaspora. The Conference was inaugurated by the Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, in the presence of the Cypriot government and senior officials.

It should be noted that Egypt is the Conference’s guest of honour, as all the Cypriot speakers, during delivering their speeches, were keen to praise the rich participation of Egypt and the permanent support of Cyprus. Christodoulides was also keen to thank President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, commending the depth of bilateral relations.

Gendi is scheduled to hold tete-a-tete meetings with Cypriot ministers concerned with the files of immigration, expats and the presidential initiative "Reviving Roots".

During her speech at the international expats conference, Gendi expressed her great happiness for participating in this Conference because of the long-standing bilateral relationships and commonalities.

Additionally, Gendi alluded that this Initiative is a clear reflection of the strength of the tripartite historical relations between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, noting that preparations are underway for the fifth edition that will be held during the coming period.

She emphasized the profound ties between Egypt and Cyprus highlighting the "Nostos: Reviving Roots" initiative, which was introduced by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in 2017, as a testament to the strengthening relations between the two nations.

Furthermore, Gendi revealed that plans are in motion for the fifth installment of the "Reviving Roots" initiative. This edition aims to enhance collaboration between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus.

Emigration Minister Soha Gendi met with Cypriot Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou.

The meeting tackled means of promoting positive cooperation to combat illegal immigration and securing safe and positive alternatives to curb this phenomenon.

This falls within the framework of the international dimension of the presidential initiative "Life-Saving Boats" which aims at spreading awareness among youths about the dangers of illegal immigration.

Gendi said Egypt has taken major strides in the field of combating illegal immigration and promoting safe immigration opportunities.

Gendi lauded continued development of the Egyptian-Cypriot ties, especially in the fields of power-linkage and electricity.

She referred to joint security drills as well as intensive talks on various issues of mutual concern.

During the meeting, she reviewed the role played by the Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (EGC) in training youths to give them a chance to find decent jobs abroad.

Meanwhile, the Cypriot minister lauded Gendi's official visit as very important and representing a new stage of the Egyptian-Cypriot cooperation in the illegal immigration file.

He welcomed increasing the number of Egyptian immigrants to Cyprus within legal and institutional framework.
