President El-Sisi receives Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Int'l Cooperation

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, 11-10-2023, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani. The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, the Italian ambassador to Egypt and a number of Italian officials.
The meeting confirmed the mutual aspiration to support the distinguished partnership between the two countries, and to continue the positive development and strong momentum for bilateral cooperation, in light of the historical relations between Egypt and Italy and the deep cultural ties between the two peoples.
President El-Sisi and Mr. Tajani discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and increase trade between the two countries.
They stressed the importance of strengthening the ongoing work to support food production and joint industrial cooperation, in addition to capitalizing on the opportunities available in the field of energy and renewable energy.
They also highlighted growing investments by the Italian companies in Egypt.
Regarding the international and regional situation, the meeting touched on the current Palestinian-Israeli developments.
Both sides agreed on the gravity of the situation, and the importance of working to stop the escalation and achieve calm between the two sides for the region’s stability.
This is while affirming that a just and comprehensive peace, based on the two-state solution, is of utmost necessity for the stability of the region. Mr.Tajani affirmed Italy’s reliance on Egypt’s key and vital role in this regard. President El-Sisi explained that Egypt is exerting efforts and intensifying contacts to contain the situation to prevent its exacerbation, stressing the importance of stopping the bloodshed, protecting civilians, preventing targeting them, and preventing the deterioration of the humanitarian conditions of the Palestinian people, warning of the dangerous security and humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict, and the importance of the European and international role in supporting the path of calm and negotiations.
