Egypt's State Information Service (SIS) holds a press conference to clarify Egypt’s position on the ongoing war in Gaza

Journalist and writer Diaa Rashwan, the Chairman of Egypt's State Information Service (SIS), held a press conference on Tuesday 24/10/2023 at the Authority’s headquarters attended by representatives of foreign and Egyptian media to clarify the various dimensions of the Egyptian stance regarding the current situation in Gaza, as well as the region as part of Egypt's continued endeavour to deal with the root causes of the escalation, by reaching a just, comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Palestinian cause.

Diaa Rashwan said that President El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s position towards the Palestinian cause in more than one occasion during the recent period with decisive words, stressing that Egypt had never abandoned the Palestinian cause since the outbreak of the crisis with Israel, which is throughout the 75 years. Rather, President El-Sisi, in one of his interventions, described it as the most important of all issues.

He reiterated Egypt's stance on the necessity of reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.

He pointed out that as a result of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip is about 1,400,000 people, or 70 percent of the population in Gaza Strip displaced.

Rashwan asserted that Egypt has demanded a ceasefire to allow the entry of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza, rejecting at the same time any plans for their forced displacements as well as any attacks on any civilians.

Rashwan said: “Egypt's vision has not ab initio been based on an individual peace with Israel; because genuine peace can only be attained by resolving the mother of all causes, namely the Palestinian cause.”

He highlighted that the Cairo Summit for Peace came at a critical time; however, that did not prevent such a large number of states directly related to the Palestinian cause from participating in the summit.

As for evacuation of foreign citizens from the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, Rashwan said some of them are Palestinians with dual nationality, and they have been assembled near Rafah border crossing in Gaza.

"Egypt defends people’s right to resist occupation in general; this is not confined to the Palestinian resistance," Rashwan said while answering a question about western criticisms of Cairo's major role in support of Palestinians.

Egypt is ready to go the extra mile for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Rashwan said, citing President Sisi's remarks asserting Cairo's unconditional willingness to contact all the parties concerned.

Diaa Rashwan stressed that Egypt is committed to the international law and rejects the forced displacement of the Gaza residents to any place.
