President El-Sisi Receives President of Cyprus at Ittihadia Palace

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, on Tuesday 5/12/2023, the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides at Ittihadia Palace.

Spokesman for the Presidency Counselor Ahmed Fahmy said the meeting touched on relations between the two countries. Both sides affirmed keenness to continue strengthening the distinguished and close relations that have been developing steadily during the recent period.

The two presidents reviewed ways to expand this cooperation in a number of priority files, mainly energy, while exploring new horizons for consolidating relations, whether at the bilateral level or through the tripartite cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece.

The meeting also touched on the regional developments, especially the escalation in the Gaza Strip.

President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in the Strip and stressed the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in this regard. The President also reviewed Egypt’s diligent efforts to deliver Egyptian humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza Strip and confirmed Egypt’s readiness to receive and coordinate with all international efforts directed to the Strip.

The Cypriot President praised Egypt’s tireless efforts to calm the situation, as well as on the humanitarian level and stressed Cyprus’ keenness on continuous coordination with Egypt in this regard, in light of the vision shared by the two countries on the priority of establishing peace and ensuring stability in the region. President El-Sisi stressed the necessity of international action to advance the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the way to achieve peace, security and stability in the region.
