The Egyptian Armed Forces have successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition in a border area located in the western strategic direction.

The Border Guards apprehended two individuals who were involved in the smuggling attempt, and appropriate legal measures have been taken against them, according to a statement by the Armed Forces' spokesperson, Gharib Abdel Hafez, on Sunday.

The Border Guards managed to seize a substantial cache of items before they could be smuggled, including 440 shotguns, a Kalashnikov rifle, 77 rounds of ammunition, a satellite communication phone, and a Land Cruiser vehicle.

The spokesperson emphasized the ongoing and intensive efforts to secure Egypt's strategic borders and combat smugglers and criminals who aim to undermine the nation's resources.

Egypt shares a vast western border with Libya, spanning over 1,000 kilometers.
