Egypt’s Participation in the 6th AU Mid-Year Coordination Meeting

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly participates in the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU), held in Accra, the capital of Ghana, under theme: “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for increased Access for Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality and Relevant learning in Africa”.
Madbouly represents Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, given Egypt’s current presidency of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) agency.
During the meeting on Sunday, the Prime Minister will deliver a speech emphasizing NEPAD’s role in promoting regional and continental integration within the framework of Agenda 2063. This session will be attended by various heads of state, government officials, and representatives from African organizations.
In addition to the formal sessions, Madbouly will hold bilateral meetings with several officials during his visit to Ghana, focusing on efforts to enhance economic integration among African countries.
About the AU Mid-Year Coordination Meeting
The Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, established in 2017, serves as the primary forum for aligning the AU’s and RECs’ work and coordinating the implementation of the continental integration agenda. This meeting replaces the traditional June/July summits.
Agenda of the 6th AU Mid-Year Coordination Meeting
In Accra, the agenda includes evaluating the AU’s early warning and conflict prevention mechanisms, as well as promoting cooperation among regional economic communities to accelerate integration. A declaration is expected to be adopted after the meeting.
Meanwhile, the 45th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Executive Council opened in Accra on Thursday, with a focus on education as a key driver of growth, inclusion, and improved quality of life.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with a group of notable Guinean businessmen in the fields of construction, pharmacy, shipping, automotive, energy, food products and agricultural projects.
Abdelatty said that government has a achieved a remarkable leap in adopting legislative reforms meant to create a favorable climate for investment and encouraging investors of the private sector, alongside ensuring the fair competition.
He added that the government is currently taking several measures to support the private sector and achieve sustainable development, comprehensive upgrade along with automation of tax and customs systems.
Abdelatty highlighted the great significance attached by the Egyptian government to strengthening relations with the African continent, particularly in the commercial and economic fields.
He hailed the increase in trade exchange between Egypt and Ghana throughout the past three years, which stood at 270 million dollars, against 78 million dollars in 2020, in light of the prospective increase of trade exchange opportunities within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Abdelatty expounded the ambitious economic program as well as the comprehensive economic policies adopted by Egypt with the aim of enhancing ability to endure the negative repercussions of global political and economic crises on the economy.
He added that the government has prioritized removing obstacles facing investors and enhancing the involvement of the private sector in the economic growth process through promoting partnership between the public and private sectors, Abu Zeid said.
The foreign minister listened to proposals and plans of the businessmen to expand their activities in Egypt as well as their interest to pump investments in the sectors of medicine, food industries, iron and car assembly.
The request of the businessmen has been discussed alongside ways to maximize the benefit from the investment incentives and contribute to encouraging innovation, creating new markets and creating job opportunities.
Abdelatty explained to the Ghanaian investors that he discussed with the Ghanaian foreign minister signing an agreement to encourage and protect investments and another deal agreement to avoid the double taxation.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty asserted the historic ties between Egypt and Nigeria, adding that Egypt is looking forward to boosting cooperation to improve the bilateral ties, especially in the investment and trade domains.
Abdelatty pointed out to the importance of holding the 3rd edition of the political consultation mechanism between the foreign ministries of both countries to discuss means to boost ties and exchange points of view on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Abdelatty asserted the importance of boosting cooperation in the field of combating terror and other security threats as both countries encounter mutual challenges of the increasing dangers of terror organizations in the coastal area.
Abdelatty lauded Nigerian success in noticeably limiting the dangers of the terrorist organizations, asserting Egypt’s keenness on presenting all technical support and knowledge need to stand against these multi-dimension threats.
Abdelatty pointed out to the necessity to promote economic cooperation between both countries and improve the volume of trade exchange to cope with the volume of their economies, adding that there are efforts to hold an Egyptian-Nigerian business council to boost communication between the business communities in both countries.
The minister asserted the readiness of the Egyptian companies to work in national and strategic projects in Nigeria.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s keenness on presenting support to the Nigerian brethren in the different domains in addition to presenting scholarships by Azhar and the Egyptian universities.
Meanwhile, Tuggar asserted the importance of improving the relations between Egypt and Nigerian to the strategic level, adding that his country is looking forward to continuing cooperation in a number of pivotal sectors, including the agricultural, communication and information technology domains in addition to benefiting from the Egyptian expertise and distinguished experience in green hydrogen production and improving the electricity sector.
He also lauded the Egyptian support to the Nigerian capabilities in a number of domains, topped by combating terror.
