Cairo Conference to Enhance Humanitarian Response to Gaza

Under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza kicked off on Monday 2nd December, 2024 under the title "A Year of Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza: Urgent Needs and Sustainable Solutions."
The conference is attended by 103 delegations of countries, international organizations and financial institutions, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The event is part of Egypt's efforts to help Gazans face the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged enclave, read the statement.
It aims to outline clear commitments to provide aid to Gaza and boost international support that would guarantee sustainable response to the humanitarian crisis there, the statement said.
Securing urgent humanitarian aid and planning for early recovery in the Gaza Strip are key points to be addressed in the conference.The conference will shed light on a year of humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, focusing on urgent needs and sustainable solutions with the aim to enhance humanitarian response in the besieged enclave.
The ministerial conference reflects Egypt's keenness on supporting Arab causes, atop of which the Palestinian cause.
The conference will witness the participation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, along with ministers and representatives from a number of countries in the Middle East and the world, as well as international organizations and relevant UN agencies.
A joint press conference is scheduled to be held by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, had announced hosting the “Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza,” in a speech he delivered at the opening session of the 10th edition of the MED Mediterranean Dialogues Conference, held in Rome.
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigrations and Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of the transition to finding a political horizon to implement the two-state solution.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and access to humanitarian aid without restrictions or conditions, and the importance of building on the outcomes of the extraordinary Arab and Islamic summit held recently in Riyadh. They also stressed their keenness to ensure the success of the Gaza Humanitarian Response Support Conference, which will be hosted by Cairo on December 2, 2024, in achieving its goals.
This came during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's reception of Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized the need for reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the flow of life-saving humanitarian aid into the war-ravaged enclave.
This came during a phone call he had with Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The minister said that Egypt prioritizes easing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, highlighting efforts to organize a ministerial conference in Cairo on December 2 in collaboration with the United Nations to enhance humanitarian response to Gaza crisis.
He voiced hope that the conference would lead to fruitful results that would contribute to alleviating the burdens of the suffering civilian population in the Strip.
Meetings on the sidelines of the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with WFP's Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Carl Skau.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty voiced appreciation for repeated calls by the World Food Program (WFP) to secure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
He said Egypt is thankful for the WFP’s important role in supporting humanitarian relief efforts around the globe.
He asserted that Egypt is willing to provide all facilitations to support WFP action, noting that WFP is still working despite grave challenges and repeated targeting of its staff.
Abdelatty highlighted that Israel’s starvation policy has unprecedentedly aggravated the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The meeting also took up the latest developments in Sudan and joint efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people amid deteriorating conditions in the Arab country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stressed the importance of international support to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Abdelatty said participants should send a firm political message pressing for an immediate ceasefire and a halt to Israel’s daily violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
He praised efforts exerted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres over the past months in this regard.
He underscored continued Egyptian attempts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated Cairo’s commitment to permanently cooperating with the UN to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.
Abdelatty stressed that Egypt rejects the Israeli military presence on the Palestinian side of Rafah Crossing and the Philadelphi Corridor, as well as Israeli acts to hinder the flow of aid to Gaza.
He also voiced support for the UNRWA and rejected Israel’s decision to suspend activities of the international body in Gaza.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with his Slovenian counterpart Tanja Fajon.
The two top diplomats exchanged views regarding regional and international developments of mutual concern, atop of which the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
Abdelatty appreciated Slovenia’s supportive stance of the lawful rights of the Palestinian people. Ljubljana has been adopting a balanced position regarding the aggravating developments in the region, he said. The Egyptian foreign minister also praised Slovenia’s recognition of the State of Palestine in May 2024.
Abdelatty noted that Slovenia has voted for all international resolutions calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and the delivery of aid to the war-torn enclave.
He posted Fajon on Egypt’s efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that international moves are needed to support the implementation of the two-state solution and recognize an independent Palestinian state.
