Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif highlighted the importance of cooperation with Japan in developing the technical education to serve the local labor market.

He said his ministry seeks to benefit from partnerships with the private sector to enhance the quality of education and equip students with the necessary skills for the new labor market.

Abdel Latif made the remarks during his meeting on Friday 21/2/2025 with President and CEO of Toyota Tsusho Jun Karube, as they discussed the possibility of establishing an applied technology school in Egypt.

The minister hailed the Egyptian-Japanese relations as being a model of international cooperation, especially in light of the two countries' keenness to strengthen bilateral ties in several fields, particularly in the areas of education and technical education.

Abdel Latif briefed Karube on a proposal to introduce the International Applied Technology School [IATS] model in Egypt, which focuses on practical training that qualifies students for the labor market.

The minister invited the CEO of Toyota Tsusho to visit Egypt and inspect applied technology schools, which represent an innovative model for developing the technical education's system in Egypt.

On his part, Karube said Toyota Tsusho targets reinforcing its presence in Africa, especially as the Japanese company has 54 branches around the world.

Toyota Tsusho aims to support the technical education in Africa, he added, noting that the Japanese company built a training academy in Kenya in 2014 in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). According to him, around 7,000 students graduated from this academy.
