Egypt celebrates Martyr's Day on March 9
Saturday، 08 March 2025 - 11:35 AM

Egypt celebrates Martyr's Day on March 9 every year in recognition of our righteous martyrs.
The day is originally held in the memory of Abdel Moneim Riad's martyrdom in 1969, when he went to the front on the second day of the War of Attrition to personally follow up on the results of the previous day’s battle and to be among his armed forces' colleagues in such a violent and continuous combat to exhaust the enemy.
While passing on the forces on the front lines north of Ismailia, Riad was fatally wounded by enemy artillery fire during the clash, and died during his transfer to Ismailia Hospital.
The people of all denominations came out during his funeral to bid him farewell, with reverence, respect and deep sadness.
Egypt and the Armed Forces are marking the celebrations of Martyr’s Day, corresponding to the anniversary of martyrdom of Abdel Moneim Riad, former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, on March 9, 1969.
