Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, met today with Dr. Maya Morsy, the Minister of Social Solidarity, to review the details of the economic cost assessment of the number of refugees and expatriates residing in Egypt.
Counselor Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the meeting addressed estimates of the total cost borne by the state for the care of its guests from various nationalities, including refugees and expatriates residing in Egypt.
He added that the services provided to them across various sectors were reviewed, as well as the costs associated with supporting the necessary health infrastructure to deliver medical services and other forms of healthcare.
During the meeting, the Minister of Social Solidarity emphasised that the ministry places great importance on the file concerning refugees, expatriates, and migrants due to its clear impacts on various economic and social aspects.
In this regard, she pointed out that the assessment of the costs of hosting Egypt's guests, including refugees, expatriates, and migrants, is undertaken for several reasons, including supporting decision-making and ensuring it is taken into account by policymakers.
Additionally, cost evaluation serves as a fundamental entry point for a clearer understanding of the impacts of expatriates, refugees, and migrants from economic, social, and environmental perspectives on the progress Egypt is making on national and international indicators. Furthermore, cost estimation contributes to the development of policies that form a foundation and reference for allocating and directing the necessary support for Egypt's efforts in hosting refugees and migrants.
During the meeting, Dr. Maya Morsy confirmed that there is collaboration with United Nations organisations to assess the economic cost of the number of refugees and expatriates residing in Egypt, which is borne by the Egyptian state.
There is also agreement on the criteria used to calculate the costs from all ministries and government entities.
