Sunday، 23 March 2025 - 02:16 PM

Egypt’s Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir inspected, on Sunday 23-0-2025, the first phase of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and visited the work sites for the second phase of the Greater Cairo Ring Road development project.
El-Wazir has confirmed that the BRT project’s first and second phases will see the operation of 100 electric buses on the ring road around Greater Cairo.
Each bus can carry 66 passengers, equal to 5 microbuses, enabling the transport of 3,200 passengers per hour in both directions. These buses are made in Egypt as part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative to localise industries and reduce imports.
This aligns with the government’s plan to enhance the industrial sector and establish Egypt as a key regional hub. Buses will run every three minutes, with 20 buses per hour, increasing to one every 1.5 minutes during peak hours.
He emphasised that the BRT project will serve as a modern example that the state aims to achieve in its various projects, highlighting its eco-friendly nature as a mass transport option.
