Minister of Health chaired third meeting of Higher Advisory Committee for Human Development

In the context of national efforts to enhance human development and achieve the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030, Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, chaired the third meeting of the Supreme Advisory Committee for Human Development, which includes a distinguished group of thinkers, experts, and specialists in the fields of human development, economics, planning, and media. The meeting aimed to discuss the latest developments in implementing the national strategy for human development. The meeting was attended by Mr Mohamed Abdel-Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, Dr Hala El-Said, Advisor to the President for Economic Development and former Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr Magid Osman, the committee's rapporteur and head of the Egyptian Centre for Public Opinion Research "Baseera", and the former Minister of Communications and Information Technology. Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting discussed the importance of health and education as fundamental pillars for achieving sustainable development, emphasising that the integration of these two sectors is the cornerstone for building more aware and healthy generations. The meeting also reviewed efforts to focus on children in the kindergarten stage, concentrating on developing their skills, encouraging creativity, and providing integrated educational, health, and developmental programmes. The official spokesperson added that the committee explored ways to expand the establishment of nurseries and kindergartens, in line with the state's plan to support early childhood. He confirmed that the Deputy Prime Minister directed the committee to transform ideas and visions into executable programmes and projects, with clear timelines to be presented later to the ministerial group for human development to study implementation mechanisms. Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that the meeting reviewed efforts to improve the health and nutritional status of children and discussed the state's plans to combat malnutrition and reduce stunting rates among children, within the framework of the presidential initiative "A New Beginning for Building the Human". The meeting also highlighted ways to enhance the quality of education and learning outcomes at the pre-university education stage by developing teachers' capabilities, providing an effective learning environment, and ensuring equal opportunities for all age groups to receive distinguished education. The discussion also touched on the necessity of aligning educational outputs with labour market requirements and building human capacities. For his part, Mr Mohamed Abdel-Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, confirmed that the ministry is working on several axes aimed at developing the educational system as a whole, reflecting on maximising benefits for students. He noted that the ministry is intensifying efforts to enhance literacy rates among primary stage students, focusing on addressing the level of students struggling with reading and writing and preparing remedial programmes to improve their performance. The Minister continued that the ministry is also continuously working on developing curriculum content to keep pace with the rapidly evolving global developments in various fields, while prioritising improving the nutrition system for school students to ensure they receive comprehensive meals that enhance their health and help them achieve academic success efficiently. He pointed out the utmost efforts being made to provide an effective learning environment that supports the development of students' capabilities, in line with Egypt Vision 2030 for sustainable development. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to continue coordination between the relevant authorities to ensure achieving the desired goals, with regular follow-up on the implementation of recommendations and working on providing innovative and sustainable solutions. The meeting was attended by Dr Abla El-Alfy, Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Ahmed Darwish, former head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority and former Minister of Administrative Development, Mr Diaa El-Din Dawood, Member of Parliament, Dr Hossam Badrawi, former member of the Shura Council, Dr Adel Abdel-Latif, UNDP Human Development Report Advisor in Egypt for 2021, Ms Sahar Al-Bazaar, Deputy Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee in Parliament, Dr Khaled Zakaria, Director of the Economic Policies Centre at the National Planning Institute and General Supervisor of the UNDP Human Development Report in Egypt for 2021, Dr Samah Al-Saharti, Director of the Human Development Programme in the Gulf Cooperation Council at the World Bank, Mr Ahmed Fathy, Member of Parliament, Dr Ayman Ismail, Professor of Business Administration at the American University, Dr Amira Kazem, an education expert and former operations manager of the education group at the World Bank, Mr Ali Sadiq, President of the Egyptian Space Research Council and founder of the Egyptian Space Programme, Engineer Amr Suleiman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Evigone Technology and member of the Board of Directors of Nasser Social Bank, Dr Ayman Ismail, Professor of Business at the American University, Mr Ghimar Dib, UNDP representative, and via video conference, Dr Huda Rashad, Director of the Social Research Centre at the American University.
