President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has delegated Presidential Advisor for Religious Affairs and Minister of Awqaf Osama Al-Azhari to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, the ministry said in a statement.

Azhari expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, describing him as a figure of immense humanitarian contributions and noble efforts.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Church and its followers around the world.

Azhari praised Pope Francis as a unique and exceptional leader who stood as a global symbol for the defense of human values and a true advocate for peace.

He affirmed that history will remember Pope Francis for his courageous stances in promoting humanity amidst wars and conflicts, and for his unwavering commitment to defending the oppressed, the poor, and refugees.
