Spokesman for the Cabinet Mohamed el Homsani termed as important the visit of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli to the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), saying it highlighted the scale of development and modernization that took place at this strategic area.

Speaking with Good Morning Egypt tv program, the spokesman said the visit included East and West port Said areas, adding that such visits come as part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's vision to turn the Suez Canal economic zone to a global trade, industry and logistics hub, leveraging its strategic location to attract international investment.

Among the most prominent projects is the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said, which has attracted $1 billion in investments. Since its 2004 opening, the terminal has received over 30,000 vessels and ranks 10th globally in operational efficiency, safety, and throughput, according to the World Bank.

Homosani noted that the zone currently houses 15 developers following a new agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports Group.

Workflow at the metro and train carriage manufacturing plant has reached 80%, with production expected to start in July, he said. The first train is set to roll out by July 2026.

He said the SCZone projects are being carried out in phases, with each phase completed before handing over additional land to developers, which helps in ensuring adherence to timelines.
