Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a telephone call Monday with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani which focused on the next steps toward implementing an Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, as well as preparations for an upcoming Cairo International Reconstruction Conference, in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations.
During the conversation, the two sides also reviewed aspects of relations and cooperation between the two sisterly countries.
Abdelatty commended the growing momentum in relations, highlighting the strong bonds that unite Egypt and Qatar and serve the shared interests of their peoples.
The two top diplomats exchanged views on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and on the two countries’ efforts, in coordination with the United States, to resume the ceasefire, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure the urgent and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Both sides welcomed the announcement of the release of the American hostage, Idan Alexander, describing it as an encouraging step toward returning to the negotiating table. They emphasized that this development provides momentum to the mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar and the United States, and paves the way for advancing toward a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in the region.
