Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani urged an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of Israel's siege on the Gaza Strip to restore regional security.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, the nations reiterated their complete rejection of the liquidation of the Palestinian cause and the displacement of the native population.

They also affirmed their commitment to Egypt’s Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, which was unanimously adopted by Arab states at the Extraordinary Summit in Cairo last March.

El-Sisi and Al-Sudani emphasized the need to avoid expanding the regional conflict, stressing the importance of restoring stability in Arab countries and respecting their sovereignty.

The Egyptian president praised Iraq's efforts in hosting the summit and expressed Egypt's confidence in Iraq's leadership of joint Arab action over the coming year, given its presidency of the Arab Summit.

The Iraqi prime minister, for his part, underscored Egypt's pivotal role within the Arab framework in light of regional developments.

Additionally, they discussed enhancing their economic, trade, infrastructure, and energy cooperation and Egyptian companies' role in supporting development programmes in Iraq.
