Health min., GAVI Chair review expanding vaccine manufacturing

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Housing Khaled Abdel Ghaffar had talks on Thursday 22/5/2025, with Jose Manuel Barroso, the Chair of the Board of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and a number of Gavi representatives.
The talks tackled means of implementing mechanisms for expanding vaccine manufacturing.
The meeting took place on the fringe of the 78th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA78) in Geneva.
Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said both sides exchanged views on means of implementing policies to expand the promotion of vaccine manufacturing in Egypt and African countries.
The talks also tackled mechanisms to boost vaccination services and primary healthcare.
The spokesman added that the talks reviewed cooperation to enhance expanded immunization programs in addition to improving primary healthcare systems.
Both sides agreed on cooperation between Egypt and Gavi to ensure equitable access to vaccines across Africa and the Middle East and North Africa region.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Health and Population Amr Qandil, Gavi CEO Sania Nishtar, and Gavi's Senior Director for Programmatic and Strategic Engagement with the African Union/Africa Richard Mihigo.
