Egypt, S. Africa probe boosting infrastructure, transport development cooperation

Egyptian Ambassador in Pretoria Ahmed Sherif and South African National Minister of Transport Barbara Cressy reviewed on Monday, June 10, 2025, ways to promote joint cooperation in the infrastructure and transport sectors. During a meeting with the South African official, Sherif applauded South Africa's ambitious vision for infrastructure development, especially road, railway, and port infrastructure, reviewing in this regard the leading expertise of Egyptian construction companies and Egypt's extensive experience in port development, the Ministry of Foreign, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs said in a press release. He also discussed joint cooperation opportunities in these vital sectors. Meanwhile, Cressy briefed the Egyptian diplomat on her government's plans for developing the transport sector, highlighting South Africa’s policy to enhance partnership with the private sector on that score, as well as the efforts made to improve and modernize South Africa's transport infrastructure. The two sides also discussed bilateral and regional cooperation opportunities on major continental projects, such as the Cairo-Cape Town highway project and a navigational line project to link Lake Victoria and the Mediterranean Sea. They agreed on the importance of maintaining coordination between the authorities concerned in both countries to advance joint cooperation that serves the interests of the Egyptian and South African peoples.
