Egypt's Grand Mufti Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, who doubles as the Chairman of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, said that the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, which falls on June 18, represents a pressing international need to uphold the values of understanding, peace, and coexistence among peoples.
He cautioned against the growing hate speech worldwide, especially via social media platforms. He also referred to the danger of artificial intelligence tools that fabricate religious discourses.
He highlighted the need for wise and enlightened religious discourse, citing Darul Iftaa's upcoming international conference on training wise muftis in the age of AI so that muftis would be capable of interacting with the changes of the era and confronting hate speech.
