Egypt and Slovenia attaches with special relations, Cairo was chosen to be the headquarters to the only Slovenian diplomatic representation in the Arab region and Africa.

The opening of the Slovenian Embassy in Cairo toke place in 1993, as well as a presidential decree issued to open an Egyptian mission in Slovenia, in 2007 a presidential decision was made to upgrade the Egyptian diplomatic representation in Ljubljana that embassy headed by an Ambassador, as one of the most positive developments in relations between the two countries.
