Egyptian Officials' visits to Romania

From 24 to 25 March 2009, Prosecutor General Abdel Mageed Mahmoud visited Romania to participate in the Third World Summit of Prosecutors and Attorneys General held in Bucharest, Romania.

In 2007, during his Chairmanship of the Institute for Diplomatic Studies, Ambassador Walid Abdel Nasser visited Romania, where he reviewed the activity of the Diplomatic Institute in Bucharest and deliberated means of bilateral cooperation. He also delivered a lecture on Egypt's vision on the political changes in the Middle East.

In June 2007, Assistant Foreign Minister Raouf Saad participated in the Conference of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), hosted in Bucharest on Combating All Forms of Racial Discrimination and Protecting Religions.

In September 2006, former Minister of International Cooperation Fayza Abul Naga visited Romania and represented the Former President in the Francophone Summit meetings, hosted in Bucharest. The Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation, which encompassed Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Relations Ambassador Naela Gabr.

Within the first half of 2006, former Assistant Foreign Minister for International Economic Relations Ambassador Amr Helmi visited Romania.

In 2005,  former Parliament Speaker Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour visited Romania, where he met with the Speakers of the Romanian House of Representatives and the Senate.

In 1999, 2001 and 2004, former President Hosni Mubarak visited Romania. President Traian Băsescu invited him to visit Romania, and the invitation was recently renewed.

Romanian Officials' Visits to Egypt

From 29 September to 4 October 2009, the visit of former Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises to Egypt, accompanied by a Senior economic delegation, and 19 Romanian companies representatives working in IT, energy, transport, construction and petrochemical industries where a number of agreements was signed on the sidelines of the mutual businessmen visits.

In June 2009, Romania participated in the Second Preparatory Meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency, held in Sharm El-Sheikh. The Romanian delegation was headed by Romanian State Minister of Economy.

In March 2009, Romanian State Minister for Foreign Relations d' Oro Costa participated in the International Conference held in Sharm El-Sheikh on the Reconstruction of Gaza.

On 2 June 2008, Romanian MPs, members of Parliamentary Association for Euro-Med Cooperation, visited Egypt, participating in the Economic, Finance, Social and Educational Relations Committee affiliate to the assembly and hosted by the People's Assembly.

In March 2008, Romanian Former Minister of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian visited Egypt to inaugurate the Romanian Pavilion at the International Cairo Fair. He met with former Ministers of International Cooperation, Trade, Industry and Finance.

On 30 October 2007, the Former Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu paid an official visit to Egypt, where he held a series of bilateral deliberations with former Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit. He also met with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa. Furthermore, the Romanian Foreign Minister visited the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Anna Lindh Foundation as Romania has recently allocated $50,000 supporting its activities.

On 21- 22 February 2007, a number of Romanian former Presidents visited Egypt in the last years, including President Emil Constantinescu and President Ion Iliescu. Furthermore, the current President, Traian Băsescu paid an official visit to Egypt, where he met with Former President Hosni Mubarak, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Parliament. He also held an expanded meeting with a group of businessmen from the two countries. The visit also witnessed the signature of three bilateral agreements on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, Protecting and Encouraging Investments and bilateral Cooperation between the two Investment Authorities.

In 2007, Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu participated in the International Conference on Iraq held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Bilateral Political Consultation Mechanism between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs

The last Political Consultation Round was held in Cairo in November 2008. It is scheduled to agree on making a date to follow up these deliberations in 2010. Coordination with the Romanian side is ongoing to hold the next Round in Bucharest at the Assistant Foreign Ministerial level.
